Our Work
The Vision of PECHE is to contribute to the reduction of health disparities among economically disadvantaged
community populations living in DeKalb County, GA. This is achieved through PECHE’s initiatives such as the promotion
and adoption of protective health behaviors and disease prevention behaviors within the priority population.
The Mission of PECHE is to promote health protecting and disease preventing behaviors through educational campaigns,
community mobilization & sensitization strategies, cultural competence training for health care professionals and system
change initiatives directed toward Federal, State and Local policy makers. The Values of PECHE include collaboration,
quality of services, trust, sensitivity to diversity,dependability, efficiency, innovation, excellence, effective
communications and respect.
PECHE is committed to the promotion of health and reduction of health disparities that exists among minorities and
economically disadvantaged populations, the improvement of access to health care for these populations, the education
of these populations concerning health improving strategies and the promotion of positive health care interactions among
health care providers and immigrant & refugee populations.
The specific goals of PECHE include:
The identification of public health interventions relevant for African community populations
The adoption of effective intervention strategies for African community populations
The provision of cost effective services relation to implementing intervention strategies
The evaluation of interventions to enhance the sustainability of services
The development of quality of life status for economically disadvantaged immigrant and refugee populations
The implementation of training programs that enhance the cultural competence of service providers
The development of collaborative relationships with individuals and institutions that specialize
in the enhancement of public health research that benefits the African immigrant and refugee populations.
PECHE recognizes the need to collaborate with other community based organizations for maximum reach
of the African Community. It also recognizes the different roles played by local Community Based
Organizations in the services provided to the African Community such as: various risk prevention
and health education services, health care services and other social adjustment services.
